CAS Valentine

Hi there everybody.  I needed a card for my DH and I thought I would make a shaker card with some little mirri hearts inside.  It started off OK but finished in total disaster as the hearts kept gravitating to the edges and sticking on the dimensional tape and I tried to open it up and move them away but that didn't work at all and it gradually got more and more sad and sorry looking with all the messing about with it so it had to go into the bin!  I then came up with this which was made in rather a hurry but turned out OK.

For the card I used:

White Card.
Red Card.
Leonie Pujol Dotty Heart Embossing Folder.
Nellie Snellen Multi Frame Heart Die.
Distress Ink - Black Soot.
WOW Metallic Silver Embossing Powder.
Versamark Ink.
Crimping Tool.
Glossy Accents.
Few Gems.

I started by inking up the embossing folder in the centre with the black ink and spritzed with water, then pressed the white card over it firmly to transfer the pattern, and dried it with a heat tool.  I then lined it up inside the embossing folder and embossed the whole piece of card.  I then die cut the heart from the red card and ran it through the crimping tool to corrugate it.  I decided to add a bit of detail with the glossy accents across the corrugated surface which looks like shiny stripes.

I didn't have red or black baker's twine so used a cream one and coloured it with some black ink mixed with a bit of water which has made it a sort of grey colour.  Not sure if it looks a bit dull and uninteresting as a colour, but when I put the card together I decided the red offset it a bit.

I fixed three lines of it to the top layer before adhering to the base card and then tucked the heart underneath and took a separate piece and tied it round the middle.

I finished by stamping the sentiment using the versamark and silver embosssing powder.  I used my Misti and I did press it a trifle hard in order to stamp it on to the rather uneven surface so it looks a bit patchy, I think that is down to the light shining on the silver embossing, and a bit thicker than maybe it should, but it worked reasonably well.  I then added a gem to the bow and three tiny ones scattered around as I felt it needed something to lift it a bit.  I did wonder if he would think the gems a bit girlie...lol, but luckily he thought they looked fine and not too feminine.

Thank you for looking at my blog today and hope to see you soon.

I am entering the following challenges:

CAS Mix Up February Challenge - Corrugated Cardboard.  (I crimped the card myself as I didn't have any corrugated cardboard.  I also have dry and wet embossing and the inked embossing folder as my own choice techniques.
Simon Says Monday Challenge - Use Your Favourite Tool.  (Mine is my Grand Calibur which gets used for most of the cards I make).
That's Crafty Challenge - I Heart You.
Casology Challenge  - Romance.

This is GORGEOUS, Pat! I have done the inked embossing folder stamping before, but not paired it with the dry embossing ... looks AMAZING together! And I love your crimped and glossy stripes on the heart. The red pops with the white and gray background and accents. Your dyed twine and gems are perfect special touches. I bet your hubby was impressed with this fantastic card. Thanks so much for sharing with us at CAS Mix Up! xx

Oh, don't we all have those days when a card does not want to work out the way we planned, hey - had to smile for your story about the shaker, Pat!!!! But you ended up making a wonderful card for hubby!!!! Such a great idea how you've added the bg colour to the dry embossed panel - it looks fabulous!!!!! Your red heart is lovely with the shine and I think the colour of the twine is just perfect!!!! I don't think the rhinestones are too feminine!!!! Such a beautiful card!!!
Have a great day!!!

I think with a shaker card everything could get wrong, happened to me a couple of times :). But this card you came up with in a hurry looks so very pretty, Pat! Love the partially colored dry embossed panel and your gray and red color combination!

Love the way you did the partial inking on the embossing folder and then embossed it - it looks fabulous! I will have to CASE it one day! And great use of the corrugated cardboard - good idea to add some glossy accents to the ridges. Thanks for joining us at CAS Mix Up.

It's gorgeous, and I enjoyed reading about the card adventures too. Love how you've got the gray heart designs watercolored onto the embossing (it looks like watercolor to me!) and adding the trim with the red crinkled heart. Lovely idea to add the twine. It's very romantic, without being frilly and just right for your sweet DH. Good for you! TFS & Hugs

Hi Pat! I absolutely have the same issues with shakers!!! Ugh! Just saw that Heartfelt Creations has sticky sheet foam that you can use with your dies. I think it works better than cut and stick foam, but haven't tried it myself. Getting a sheet at stamp convention this weekend. :) Anyway, I just love how you partially inked the EF, what a very cool effect! This simple 2nd attempt is a stunner! He will love it for sure. Hugs, Autumn

Brilliant card Pat - so much love went into making it I can tell. Love that you used white red and grey rather than black - and you reminded me that I haven't used my crimper for years!

Well done for trying the shaker card - not my favourite card to make but when they work they're worth it. One trick is to keep a dedicated roll of foam dimensional tape for the shaker element 'sandwiching', and dust it lightly along the sticky edges whilst still on the roll with talc. You don't need much of course - then keep it stored in a poly or cello bag purely to snip off whatever lengths you need when making shaker cards. Works a treat! :)

Pat, this card is amazing! I keep going back to look at the cool inking/spritzing effect of the heart pattern prior to embossing. I am in awe! I've tried this but it never looks this good! Wow! I love the mebossing folder pattern, too...this one is new to me. The pop of the red heart and the fun twine is the perfect touch! Thanks so much for joining us at CASology!

This one is a WOW-knock-your-socks-off design, Pat!! Did it knock his socks off? I love every detail and how you tied the crimped heart with a bow for so much texture and interest! I, too, have had many shaker card disasters which is why I finally got the Fuse Tool. Now I forget I have it and you've reminded me!! Hugs, Darnell
