Shades of Blue Birthday

Hi all.  There is a fun challenge going on at the moment run by Kara of K and R Designs called 300 Weeks of Inspiration Challenge.  She keeps a file of her favourite projects which she adds to every week called the Friday Inspiration File, and every 100 weeks she challenges us to pick a card and CASE it, so I decided to look through and found this one, made by Laurie, which you will find here.

Here is my CASEing of it.

For the card I used:

White Card Blank aproximately 6" x 6".
Piece of White Card  51/2" x 51/2".
Adirondack Stonewashed Ink.
Distress Inks - Peacock Feathers and Faded Jeans.
Couture Creations Embossing Folder Compassionate.
Sue Wilson Die Orange Blossom Leaves.
Piece of White Vellum.
WOW Silver Metallic Embossing Powder.
Sentiment.

I started by cutting the pair of leaves from the piece of white card.  I then used the embossing folder, running it through my machine twice to extend the pattern a little.  It isn't a repeat pattern on this folder but luckily it blends in and looks fine.

I found a strip of white card in my bits box and applied the three blue inks in stripes of colour using a blending tool, the same colour on the top and bottom and centre which was the Stonewashed darkened a bit with the Faded Jeans, and then in between with Peacock Feathers.  I then attached this to the underside of the cut out leaves.

I cut a strip of white vellum wide enough to take my sentiment which I stamped and heat embossed with the silver embossing powder, and then wrapped it around the top layer before adhering this to the card.

Thank you for visiting my blog today and I'll see you again soon.

I am also entering the following challenges"

Happy Little Stampers February CAS Challenge - Blue.
CAS on Sunday Challenge No 101 Colour Challenge.
Less is More Challenge - Colour Wheel (three adjacent colours).

So pretty Pat. Great job extending your dry embossing ... not easy to do ... yours blends seemlessly! Love the ombre effect of the blues behind your leave apertures. Great design with the silver embossed vellum to let the design show through. xx

This is a very pretty design, have not thought of cutting negative spaces like leaves to an embossed card before, this gives me a lot of ideas, thanks for inspiration and thanks for joining us at HLS!

What a super take on Laurie's card! The embossed background gives a pop without overwhelming the sense of space, and the negative die cut leaves look beautiful in their soft blues and greens. Lovely! Thanks so much for playing along with us at Less is More :)

Beautifully CASEd Pat! You have wonderful texture from that pretty embossing folder and the super-crisp embossed sentiment. Great job lining the EF up too; I always struggle with that. Superb ink blending gives this a very feminine and soft look - gorgeous! Thanks so much for sharing this with us at Less is More xx

Hi Pat, I love your gorgeous, elegant and clean style cards. Thank you for your very wise comment on my blog, it made me think about blogging vs facebook and you are right :) I get frustrated at times with how slow (probably our internet) it is to click into blogs and leaving comments, it takes a lot of time! But I will not worry and blog when I have time (as i've been doing for the past year). It's snowing heavily here, we were headed out to meet friends 50K away, but we turned around, too dangerous to drive. Now I have a the rest of the day for crafting... :) xx ps.. thanks again for all your comments and visits to my blog, they are appreciated. Take care, Shirley xx

This is just gorgeous. A wonderful effort on your CASE-ing, and I really like YOURS better, I must say. (although I loved the inspiration too!)Great work on the EF extending, as it doesn't show any 'lines' - not always easy to accomplish that. Your design idea with the leaves and specific colors was impressive. It looks just gorgeous!! TFS & Hugs
