Twofer Challenge for August

Hi there.  I am rushing in with this last minute entry for the Twofer Card Challenge over at Darnell's blog.  The idea is to use the same stamp/die on both cards but they must be for different occasions.  I wasn't sure that I would get my entry done in time but have just made it by the skin of my teeth...I wonder where that saying comes from, but I bet Darnell would know, or perhaps somebody else knows its origins.  Anyway, down to business, here are my two cards.  The prompt this time was Geometric, so I have used a hexagon die cut shape on both.

The first is a floral card featuring a pretty stylised fuchsia image from Chocolate Baroque called Hanging Flowers which I coloured with Brushos by sprinkling Scarlet and Orange on the flower area and then Leaf Green and Emerald Green around the areas where the leaves are and then spritzed.

I started by stamping the image on to the piece of white card with Versamark Ink and then heat embossed using WOW Opaque Bright White Embossing Powder.  I then used the Brushos as described above and moved them around a bit more with a waterbrush and added more colour with the brush until I was happy with the result.  I then die cut using a Stitched Square die from The Works and cut this piece with two hexagon dies using a set from XCut, and then put a piece of craft foam behind the central piece to lift it up.

Here is a closer view so that you can see the hexagonal pieces with the centre raised up on foam.

I finished by adding it to a 6" square white base card and then stamped the sentiment using Versamark and heat embossed with WOW Silver Metallic EP.

I am entering this card in the following challenges:

Happy Little Stampers August Watercolour Challenge - Anything Goes (optional twist - Flowers).
Addicted to Stamps and More - No. 306 Anything Goes.
Penny Black and More August Challenge - I Spy Something Beginning with 'B' (Brushos, Blue, Blooms and Birthday).
Watercooler Wednesday Challenge - No. 184 All About Holidays.

The second card is made with the same small hexagon making a patchwork.  I used some glossy card and alcohol inks - Indigo, Pool and Stonewashed.  I then decided to use a snowflake stamp from Chocolate Baroque called Snowflake Shadow over the top and stamped using Versamark Ink and heat embossed with WOW Silver Metallic EP.

I die cut the pieces and put them back together on to a piece of white card and then mounted that on to another slightly larger piece of white card before adhering it  to a  7" x 5" white base card (side opening).  I then added the sentiment again using the WOW Silver Metallic EP.

I am entering this card into the following challenges:

Rudolph Days August Challenge - Anything Goes Christmas.
Crafty Hazelnuts Christmas Challenge - No. 400 Anything Goes (no twist).
Happy Little Stampers August Christmas Challenge - Anything Goes (no twist).

It is the 25th here as it is after midnight, but California is a few hours behind so the challenge is still open...phew..made it, with apologies to Darnell for my very, very late entry!

Thank you for taking a look today and I hope to see you again soon.

No need to apologize, Pat! Every entry is welcome and appreciated whether it comes in the first few hours or the last few hours! And these two gorgeous and colorful entries are a feast for the eyes! I'm glad you did the sideways view of your birthday card to show your clever cutting and assembling detail! And I think your silver-embossed snowflakes were a brilliant addition to your already gorgeous Christmas card! Thank you for playing in Twofer Card Challenge #8! Hugs, Darnell (p.s. The first known usage of "by the skin of my teeth" is from the Book of Job in the Bible!)

Two very clever cards Pat and the colours on the first one are stunning. You’ve done an amazing job with the Brushos and you seem to have far more control over them than I do, your card is fabulous. Geometrics seem to be the in thing at the moment, so I may need to look into that as it’s not something I’ve ever done. The blended background colours on your second card look superb and the combination of them and the silver embossing look just perfect. Take care and enjoy the Bank Holiday weekend. Crafty hugs, Sandra x

So glad you got these beauties in the gallery! I am in awe of your skills. The Brusho background is simply amazing, and those colors are gorgeous.LOVE the white embossing over the background - it's perfect! Your second card is just beautiful. Those snowflakes remind me of newly fallen snow. Perfect use of the hexies on both cards, too. Thank you so much for joining us at the Twofer Challenge. Bev

Both of these are gorgeous, and I love your ideas on the floral piece. Spotlighting the hexagon as you did, was such a great design idea, and I've not tried stamping/embossing over brusho-s as yet, but your efforts turned out splendidly. The blue piece with the wonderful snowflakes is just stunning! Glad you got in the challenge. I was very last minute too, and saw your lovely cards as I was linking late at night! TFS & Hugs

Two really gorgeous creations Pat and if I had to choose it would be the one with the Hanging Flowers from CB, the colour palette of the Brusho's you used is so pretty. And I like the diea of using the hexagons to do the layering, confess that althouhg I've done that style a few times not thought beyond square and rectangle. So guess what I am going to do later ? Think it will work well with the stamps I am presently working with from a new artist.

I thought I'd already left a comment on this post as I remember googling to find out the origin of "by the skin of my teeth". It must be flying around in cyberspace! Two stunning cards, perfect for the Twofer Challenge and a very clever use of the hexagon die. I especially love the way you've used it on your first card and the colours on both cards are beautiful. xx
