I Love Paris

Hi everybody.  I have a card featuring some stamps from Crafter's Companion called French Chic which came with the Creative Stamping Magazine No. 107, and two of the stamps were of course the Eiffel Tower and also a wonderful spray of roses.  It also included an embossing folder which I have used here too and also a Sue Wilson Joanie - Frames and Tags die which I bought at The Range which had been reduced to half price, so a real bargain.  All the items on the card were used for the first time.

I started with a snippet of white card cut to size to fit my 6" square card and embossed using the folder..I had to extend it to fit the card.  I then brayered Black Soot Distress Ink on to it to bring out the pattern.  I used the central die from the set to cut the pattern into the background and I backed it with a snippet of black card as a matted layer.  I then stamped the tower and the flowers on to a couple of snippets of white card with Versafine Clair Nocturne Ink and heat embossed using WOW Clear Gloss Embossing Powder.  I think unfortunately the tower stamp has several bad spots which would not stamp just leaving bare patches but I managed to fill them in using a Black Micron Pen which worked well, and  I then fussy cut it out.  This is the first time I have had a faulty stamp in any of the sets from Creative Stamping and I have quite a few now, and I think that generally speaking the quality is good.  I may try getting in touch with the magazine to see if they could send me a replacemet stamp as I must say it was this particular image which made me buy the magazine as I don't have any other Eiffel Tower stamps, although that saying there are other great images to use too.

I decided to watercolour the roses and used a few colours of Distress Inks and a waterbrush, which were Festive Berries, Twisted Citron and Lucky Clover, I did also use a little Wilted Violet mixed with the red for a bit of extra shading especially in the centres of the flowers, and I lifted out some of the colour to highlight, and I then fussy cut these too.  I finished with the sentiment strip again stamping with the Nocturne Ink and heat embossed with the Clear EP, and used the pad around the edges to make it stand out better against the background.

Thank you for visiting my blog today and I'll see you again soon.

This is a lovely card Pat. The roses are striking and I think I love that embossing folder!
It's annoying when the stamps don't leave a good impression - I've had a couple of freebies with mags that have done the same - My Posca pen certainly comes in handy! I would contact the mag and see what they say!
Nothing though detracts from this great make! x

Tres Chic!! On the while I've found magazine freebies to be of good quality particularly if they come from a well known company so I think it is worth getting in touch so that they at least know there is a problem. I had a die missing from a set once and they sent me another magazine with a complete set. Great card and you've covered the problem well.

A very striking card Pat. Really gorgeous details including the pop of red on the roses.

Good idea contacting the mag about your faulty stamp, but in the meantime, have you tried gently using an emery board on the stamp? It might just help?

Thanks for coming to play in the Snippets Playground. Now you've handed in your homework, come and grab a glass of SaRngria (find me behind the bike sheds in the Playground with the usual gang). xxx

A beautiful result! The thing with 'freebies' is that craft magazine companies can be tempted to use China for production. Not saying that is the case here but it's always a bit of a risk - hey-ho though - we buy the magazine and then look on the goodies as free! Not so of course but that's what they bank on. You did brilliantly Pat - very Paris for sure.

Hugs

Hi, Pat! Hope you are well. Your card is simply fantastique! I got out my magazine stamp and stamped it with Versafine, thinking it might give a tad more detail than the Clair. I totally see what you are saying, particularly because the acetate shows all areas of the tower clearly. There's 2 little blank splotches on the left ground leg and a bit of the inside bottom arch outline right there is missing on my stamped image. Otherwise, it stamped well. Since it looks like a vintage image, I'll just use the pen on it if it bothers me, but that's me. I have multiple Eiffel stamps and the vintage ones all have areas like that. You did a great job with your pen, I'd never have known. xoxo

WOW! LOVE your Parisian card Pat! What a lovely mix of elements that work so perfectly together. Great work to fill in the missing spots on the Eiffel tower. Mixing red with purple to create a darker shade is so clever ... must remember that! xx
