Leaping Salmon

Hi there all.  This card was made for a friend, and I found this free image of a fish.  I am not great at recognising fresh water fish, and although I think this is supposed to be a trout of some kind, the fact that it is leaping out of the water is more the behaviour of a salmon, and also my colouring makes it look more like a salmon too, so a salmon it has become.  I printed this free image and coloured using my Spectrun Noir pencils, and for the background I made a print from my Gelli Plate.

I used a 6" x 4"  Kraft card and made a print using Distress Inks - Walnut Stain and Spiced Marmalade, and also some Adirondack -  Espresso.  I laid the ink down straight on to the Gelli Plate in vertical stripes quite randomly and then brayered the ink smooth but keeping he different tones a bit, and pulled the print using a snippet of white card.  When dry I ran it through a Craft Concepts - Wood Grain Embossing Folder.  I had to extend it a bit to keep the pattern running in the right direction on this landscape card.  I cut it into four pieces and backed it with a snippet of black card.  The image, which I cut out after colouring has been placed on two mats cut using a S/B Labels Thirty Two.  The smaller one was cut from a darker blue snippet, and then stamped with a Creative Expressions - Bubbles  using Adirondack - Stonewashed ink blended with some DI - Faded Jeans and then some Memento - Nautical Blue to darken the corner, and also on the water attached to the image.

I finished with some Glossy Accents on the eye and some Perfect Pearls on the on the bits of foamy water, and then added a sentiment.

Thank you for stopping by.

I wouldn't be able to tell which fish it is either! LOL!! Great colouring though - looks very realistic. I love how you've done the wood effect for the background. x

Wow Pat your wood grain background looks fabulous, I thought it was at least stamped if not printed. I love the blue watery corner and the magnificent fish.

Saw your card on Pixie's Playground and had to visit your blog to see how you made your card. I'm now one of your new followers. Gelli Plate printed paper has become a new obsession of mine so I loved seeing all that you've done with your prints. Great blog.

Wowzers...this fish card is a delight. I love fishing/fish/water or sea themed cards and yours is no exception
Great colouring too, Pat.

Sorry I have not been around much...was trying to get the house and belongings purged of all that we do not have room for...so that I could start to get quotes in for the move.
I am nearly done...just perhaps one more truck load for the thrift shop...but they are things we need here untill closer to our move date of Jan 23!

As our new lot will be about a quarter of the size here...we will have not need of our vast selection of hoses, watering systems, tools and sprinklers! I weill miss the garden but not the work...lol

Off to a crop at a girlfriends tommorow so will finally have some cards finished to blog!

Pat, you KNOW I'm loving that Gelli background, and it's so fabulously realistic with the wood graining emboss and those DI colors. Thanks for explaining how you created it. Your fish looks pretty good to me, what shimmer you have on him. I don't know trout from salmon, but just plain fish works for me. I do know that salmon leap, but maybe trout do as well !????. Anyway, a terrific masculine card, and one that is sure to bring lots of delight to the recipient. TFS & Happy Sunday.
